Wine of the Day: Botani 2010, Spain

Botani, the only dry wine of the winery, is made with a careful selection of the best Moscatel de Alejandria grapes grown in the vineyards on the north-facing slopes of the mountains of Axarquia. Due to the steepness of the slopes, all the work in the vineyard, including the harvest, is done by hand. The grapes are harvested into small baskets to prevent bruising and are carried by mules to the winery. Dry, layered, and definitely fun with or without food. The wine expresses aromas of orange flower water, lemons, oranges, and mangos in the nose, while the mouth has these same flavors, as well as distinct dried pineapple chunks. The finish is almost completely dry; it’s a bit of a happy roller-coaster ride.
